Find someone to practise English with

This takes about ten minutes. Every answer helps us find the right person rather than the next person. You can write in your own words at any point.

Part 1 of 4

About you

We send your private link and session reminders here.

Used only to honour preferences people tell us about.

Part 2 of 4

Your English

This helps us find someone who can meet you where you are.

Start typing — pick from the list or write your own.

A volunteer who shares any of these may be a good bridge.

How would you describe your English now?*
What do you want to practise?*

Choose everything that matters to you. Each one becomes a goal you can track.

For example: “I have a job interview in March.”

Part 3 of 4

When you are free

Tap every time you could usually meet. We only suggest volunteers who share your times.

Select the times you are usually free. Columns are days, rows are times of day.
MonTueWedThuFriSatSun

Pick at least one time. More times means a faster match.

Part 4 of 4

The right person for you

There is no wrong answer here. These questions are what turn a list of volunteers into the right one.

Which kind of person would put you at ease?*
When you make a mistake, what helps most?*
How would you like your sessions to run?*
What pace suits you?*
How confident do you feel speaking English with someone new?
Very nervous
Very confident
How important is it that your volunteer speaks your first language?
Do you have a preference about your volunteer?

We will respect this. If you have no preference, more matches are available sooner.

How comfortable are you with video calls?

Shared interests give you something to talk about in week one.

Parental consent (under 18s)

If the learner is under 18, a parent or guardian needs to sign our consent form. Download it, sign it, then upload a photo or scan. You can also do this later from your private page.

Download the blank consent form (PDF)

PDF or photo, up to 4 MB.

Your privacy and safety

Your answers are seen by the coordinators of the organizations involved in your match, and never by other learners. Your email and phone number are not shown to your partner — you talk through this app, where a coordinator can help. Never share passwords, ID numbers, bank details or immigration papers here. In an emergency, call your local emergency number — this app is not an emergency service.
