Volunteer as a conversation partner

An hour a week is enough to change how someone experiences a job interview, a doctor's appointment or a parents' evening. Tell us about yourself and a coordinator will be in touch about checks and induction.

Part 1 of 4

About you

Some learners ask to be paired with a woman or a man. This lets us honour that.

Part 2 of 4

What you bring

No teaching qualification is needed. Patience and reliability matter more.

A shared first language can transform the first few sessions for a beginner.

Any teaching or tutoring experience?*
What would you be confident helping with?

We match these against what each learner asked to practise.

Part 3 of 4

Your availability and capacity

Be honest about what you can sustain. A volunteer who stays is worth three who burn out.

Select the times you are usually free. Columns are days, rows are times of day.
MonTueWedThuFriSatSun

Pick at least one time. More times means a faster match.

Part 4 of 4

How you work with people

Answer as yourself, not as the ideal tutor. We compare these with each learner's answers.

How would a friend describe your manner?*
How do you tend to handle mistakes?*
How do you prefer to run a session?*
What pace suits your style?*
How comfortable are you helping someone through a video call?

Privacy and safety

Coordinators of your organization (and of a learner's organization, if you are matched across organizations) can see your profile, messages and session logs. Learners never see your email or phone number. Do not share your own or a learner's passwords, ID numbers, bank details or immigration papers, and never arrange to meet outside the app without a coordinator. If anyone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number. This app is not an emergency service.
